Eliot Porter – Another Point of View
November - December 2011
In celebration of our 30th anniversary, Scheinbaum & Russek has assembled a collection of Eliot Porter’s photographs, Both vintage and modern dye-transfer and gelatin silver prints made by the artist himself. For this exhibition, Janet Russek, who served as Eliot Porter’s assistant for ten years has selected works that illustrate Another Point of View. This rare collection of images show aspects of Porter’s work that are lesser known to the public, as well as images that are from his first publication with the Sierra Club, In Wildness Is The Preservation of The World, and in Intimate Landscapes, the accompanying publication of the first one-man photography exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in 1979, just 2 of the 28 publications produced over his lifetime.

Also included in our exhibition is a select group of Porter’s vintage black & white prints from 1938 to 1944, some of which date back to his seminal exhibition in Alfred Stieglitz’s gallery, An American Place, in 1939.
